How to relax

Here are just a few suggestions for a quick fix if you're feeling stressed which, let's face it, is a common occurrence in this day and age!

♥  control (and be aware of ) your breathing: put one hand on your abdomen and one on your chest, as you breath in and out slowly, ensure the hand on the abdomen is rising and falling with each breath.

♥  take a deep breath of fresh air and breath out slowly.

♥  try some physical exercise (if you're fit and healthy enough).

♥  put on some relaxing music: lay or sit down and close your eyes, imagine all the tension in each and every muscle ebbing away.

♥  recall a happy memory, think of a time when you felt relaxed, happy and secure.

♥  think of the funniest story you've heard.

♥  try taking Bach Rescue Remedy (make sure it's OK for you to take).

♥  If it's "some one" that's stressing you out, try defusing your thoughts by imagining them as a cartoon character!

♥  Smile.

♥  Ask a loved one for a great big hug!

We hope some of these quick fix suggestions help xx

If you feel your stress runs deeper then you should talk to your GP and possibly consider taking up any of the following:

♥  Hypno-therapy.

♥  yoga (talk to the instructor first to ascertain your fitness level).

♥  pilates (talk to the instructor first to ascertain your fitness level).

♥  art/pottery/flower arranging - any creative past time that relaxes the mind in a gentle and expressive way.

♥  avoid stimulants such as alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.

♥  shiatsu (use someone reputable).

♥  having a  regular "you" evening: listening to relaxing music, having a warm/bubbly bath - a general pamper!

♥  swedish massage (use someone reputable).

♥  walking.

♥  creating something of emotional value in your spare time, like a family album which could include photographs, some personal anecdotes, include some written memories - the list is endless and can be quite cathartic.

Lastly, we are not Doctors nor an authority on how to combat stress, however these tips may help you and any relaxation is a good thing!
